  4. A fantastic 70s album from Gary Burton – a set that definitely has the "new" promised in the title, as it takes off more from some of Gary's work in previous years! The record's got this explosive sense of color that really comes through in Gary's vibes – and in the way the LP, Vinyl record albumMissing: Chickens.
  5. Oct 17,  · Throb was my introduction to jazz back in '69 or ' I have listened to it all of these years on LP then CD, and it never lost its charm. Steve Swallow was just as nutty then as he is now, "Chickens" is my favorite cut. The play between electric violinist Richard Greene and guitarist Jerry Hahn is a thing of beauty.
  6. A laidback quintet date from Gary Burton – one that almost returns us to the warm hues of his best early work in the 60s! The record's awash in Burton 's famous tone on the vibes – a very color-sensitive approach to the instrument that resonates nicely amidst a setting that includes piano from Fred Hersch, guitar from John Scofield, bass from John Patitucci, and drums from Peter Erskine.

  8. The first five cuts were an LP teaming him with pianist Keith Jarrett; it proved a most intriguing match, with Jarrett reigning in his excesses, playing with flair, and never failing to click with Burton. The other nine songs were on the LP Throb, in which Burton continued the jazz-cum-rock and country experimentation that marked other LPs like.
